"Country Music is Three Chords and the Truth"
Harlan Howard
"Blame It On Your Heart"
Patty Loveless
Howard wrote this sassy country song with eleven-time BMI award winner Kostas, with a chorus that famously sings "blame it on your lying, cheating, cold dead beating, two-timing and double dealing, mean mistreating, loving heart."
Patty Loveless released it as the first single from her 1993 album Only What I Feel. Her version spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot Country Singles and Tracks, reaching #1 in June. Actor David Keith played Loveless' ex-boyfriend in the music video directed by Sherman Halsey. That same year, Deborah recorded a cover for the film The Thing Called Love.
More recently, Allison Iraheta performed the song on American Idol Season 8 during Grand Ole Opry week. Heidi Raye also released a version, which was released on Harlan Howard Records.
